Just Buy a Business For Sale In Thailand?

Some people prefer to buy an existing business in Thailand rather than set up a new one from scratch. There are some businesses for sale in Thailand for various reasons.

You can get a long stay visa in Thailand if you manage your own business, have a work permit, and do the basics. You can get a non-immigrant B visa which can be renewed yearly.

During COVID, many existing businesses were hit hard and put up for sale or abandoned. As COVID related restrictions have relaxed and travel is being allowed more freely, many businesses for sale may be primed for a major rebound. It may be a good time to buy some kinds of business.

For example, my own real estate business, which caters to relocating expats, was hit hard when the travel ban was emplaced in 2020, and continued to suffer over the subsequent months and years, requiring major downsizing and minimization of overhead. Like many others, I had to move on to other work. Going back to that work, now that demand is starting to increase again, is not such a simple matter. After more than 20 years in that business, and now in my 60s, I'm thinking it may be better to just move on to new and different things as I have been doing, and sell it to an enthusiastic newcomer who appreciates the many intangible benefits in addition to the monetary rewards of working in this sector. It has been an interesting and wonderful business for 20+ years. We are still operating our real estate business, but choosing our clients more carefully. If you buy a business, you should expect the following:

• The core data and assets being turned over to you
• Thorough training of yourself and any initial staff by the business seller
• After training and turn over, the business seller should still be available for awhile for reasonable requests for assistance

The training is very important in many businesses, especially about how things are done in Thailand.
